The taproot story
A taproot is the anchoring root that grows vertically and from which other roots can grow. As humans, we should ask how do we grow stronger and healthier? How do we tap into our roots?
Traditional, holistic routes to health have been my quest for almost 20 years. As a business school graduate, and successful head-hunter in Paris in my early twenties, I was plagued with severe insomnia, anxiety attacks that had me on beta blockers, and body image issues that had me spending all of my salary in therapy sessions. I knew there was more to health than trying to use chemicals to make sense of reality. Thus began my quest for authentic physical and spiritual health.
I discovered the holistic practices of yoga and Chinese medicine. For the first time in my life, yoga told me my body was not the enemy but a precious vessel of exploration and Chinese medicine gave me hints that man and nature are connected.
I had to know more. I had to "go to the root".
After two years of study in France, I left my career and my beloved hometown and flew to Nanjing, China. There, I learned Mandarin Chinese and enrolled in a five-year program in mandarin (which is equivalent to an M.D) at Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the top medical schools in China. I finished my residency at Jiangsu Provincial Hospital, where I was able to treat thousands of patients.
After meeting my husband, we moved to California where I then pursued a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and continued my never-ending learning with a doctorate program to become a Doctor of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine.
I now practice Chinese medicine and teach yoga in California. Both search for the root of a person's suffering and offer many avenues for healing and personal growth.
I am blessed to share the gifts and wisdom of two ancient traditions that extend far beyond treating a disease and address humans in a holistic way.
taproot's core values
Prevention is the best cure
Acupuncture can help relieve a wide range of conditions. It also is a preventative treatment that works to balance the body, allowing it to self-regulate.
We believe that you can come to us for acute and chronic conditions alike, or you can come to us without complaints but seeking to optimize your health.
Finding the root cause
It's in our name: we like to
"go to the root".
In this way, acupuncture treats a person and not a disease. We believe that every individual is made up of a unique combination of lifestyle, family, environment, diet, emotions, beliefs, etc. Therefore every one of our treatment is specifically tailored to you as a whole being.
Excellence in treatment
We're scared of needles too (but not these ones).
It required extensive training and practice in China and the US in order to refine the needle technique, making it as painless as possible. Most patients find acupuncture to be incredibly relaxing and fall asleep during treatment.
We believe you truly deserve to be listened to. At taproot, you have time to express concerns, to understand your treatment options, and to get a clear explanation.
We want you to experience the most genuine, focused, and compassionate care possible.
Walk out feeling better
Our clinic utilizes a style of acupuncture that produces fast results. Most patients usually feel instantaneous changes.
Noticeable improvements typically happen fast for pain conditions and it usually takes between 4-12 treatments to improve these problems in a more durable fashion.
