Women's health & fertility

Problematic cycles

75% of women suffer from PMS symptoms such as mood swings, irritability, depression, anxiety, bloating, breast tenderness, headaches, and loss of sleep. Sadly, most simply accept these irritating and often painful symptoms as "normal" and try to ignore them, treat them with ineffective medications, or just "tough it out" their whole life.

This is why a visit to taproot acupuncture & herbs for our Sierra Madre based acupuncture for women becomes necessary and beneficial.

We provide natural and non-invasive treatments for:

  • Dysmenorrhea (painful periods and cramping)

  • Amenorrhea (absence of periods)

  • Irregular periods

  • Heavy bleeding or spotting

  • PMS

  • Endometriosis

  • Fibroids and cysts

  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

  • Headaches & Migraines

  • Bloating and fatigue

  • Hormonal acne

Menopause

A natural biological process that all women live through, menopause marks another stage of a woman's growth.

Western medicine can treat various symptoms of menopause, often with hormone replacement therapy, but fails to smooth the transition in a holistic way.

Acupuncture recognizes that these symptoms are indications of imbalances in the body, and focuses on adjusting the root cause.

We treat the body & the mind as a whole.

We provide natural and non-invasive treatments for:

  • hot flashes & night sweats

  • irregular periods

  • perimenopause symptoms

  • vaginal dryness

  • mood swings

Woman in Pain

A recent study in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology found that acupuncture is remarkably helpful in alleviating menstrual cramps. Researchers concluded that "Compared with pharmacological treatment or herbal medicine, acupuncture was associated with a significant reduction in pain... as it stimulates the production of endorphins and serotonin in the central nervous system." Studies also show significant reduction - and in many cases complete cessation - of many other common PMS symptoms, as well.

Fertility, IVF & IUI

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are wonderful at harmonizing women's cycles and hormones. Our integrative approach can help and support you whether trying to conceive naturally or through IVF / IUI.

Acupuncture has been scientifically proven to impact the reproductive system, as it can:

  • Regularize the menstrual cycle

  • Improve egg quality

  • Improve uterine lining

  • Increase blood flow to the uterus and ovaries

  • Regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis

  • Improve sperm count and motility

  • Increase testicular blood flow

  • Improve success rates of IVF

  • Decrease uterine contractility

  • Decrease chances of miscarriage

IVF & IUI

For some parents to be, the journey might involve the strenuous path of IVF. We've accompanied many women through these physically and emotionally demanding tribulations, and would love to support you too.

When we work together with your body through your IVF cycle, we can maximize your chances of achieving results. Acupuncture works by increasing the flow of blood to the reproductive organs, making the lining of your uterus more receptive to the implantation of an embryo. It also decreases the stress related to all the interventions.

In one well-known German study (Paulus and Zhang), pregnancies were observed in 42.5% of patients in the acupuncture group as compared to 26.3% in the control group.

A 2005 study in Fertility and Sterility demonstrated that sperm quality and motility was improved after men received acupuncture treatments. The men treated experienced increased sperm motility levels, increased number and percentage of healthy sperm, and significant improvements in sperm structure and quality as compared to a control group.
